We're proud to announce that our Child Advocacy Center has been chosen as one of only four organizations to We’re proud to announce that our Child Advocacy Center has been chosen as one of only four organizations to spearhead a groundbreaking coalition aimed at combating child exploitation. This significant recognition highlights our unwavering dedication to safeguarding vulnerable children and underscores our commitment to collaborative efforts in addressing this critical issue. Through our partnership with esteemed organizations, we’re poised to make a profound impact, championing the rights and well-being of children in our community and beyond.
CSEC refers to a range of crimes and activities involving the sexual abuse or exploitation of a child for the financial benefit of any person or in exchange for anything of value (including monetary and non-monetary benefits) given or received by any person. Missouri is ranked the 3rd highest in the nation for cases of human trafficking (World Population Review 2021) and between 100,000 and 300,000 youth are “at risk” for commercial sexual exploitation annually within the United States (National Center for Missing & Exploited Children). Yet this growing problem of child sex trafficking is often unnoticed by the greater community because of a lack of education and awareness about this sensitive topic.
Commercial sexual exploitation of children is more complex than the public realizes. The misunderstanding is partially aided by the portrayal of sex trafficking from media and movies. That is why coalitions such as this are vital to building the training to identify victims, implementing prevention strategies, and providing the best services and resources for victims. Child Protection Center seeks to provide a multidisciplinary team response to CSEC. We will collaborate with medical personnel, social workers, school professionals, mental health organizations, and law enforcement agencies to join our efforts in combating this critical issue.
