The Real-Life Impact of State Budget Decision on Children

Image

(Feb. 27, 2026)-- State budget decisions have real, measurable impacts on children and families.

In our latest CPC in the News feature CPC CEO Lisa Mizell, shares how proposed budget cuts impact the services children and families rely on after abuse, violence, and trauma. When resources shrink, wait times grow, prevention efforts weaken, and healing becomes harder to access for kids who already carry more than they should.

At the Child Protection Center, we meet children in some of the hardest moments of their lives. Every forensic interview, therapy session, and family support service exists because a community chose to stand beside them. Public funding matters — but community support makes the difference when gaps appear.
If you believe every child deserves a safe place to be heard and begin healing, you can help protect that care.
Your support helps ensure children are seen, believed, and never left waiting for safety.

(March 2, 2026)-- Yesterday, Hunter, our Director of Prevention and Training, joined My KC Live on KCTV 5 in honor of National Read Across America Day. She shared about the work of CPC and read a book alongside the hosts—reminding viewers that stories have the power to help children feel loved and supported.

Child Advocacy Centers like ours exist because children deserve safe places to heal and tell the truth. They deserve adults who believe them, systems that protect them, and communities that choose action over avoidance.
